Empowering Current and Former Foster Youth to Achieve Their College Goals
Navigating college can be challenging, but you don't have to do it alone. NextUp (formerly known as CAFYES) is a specialized California Community College program dedicated to supporting current and former foster youth. Our goal is to provide the resources, guidance, and community you need to thrive academically and personally.
What We Provide
We offer a comprehensive support system tailored to your unique needs, both inside and outside the classroom. NextUp students receive access to:

Priority Registration: Get the classes you need, when you need them.

Counseling & Case Management: Dedicated academic and personal guidance to keep you on track.

Academic Tutoring: Extra help to ensure you succeed in your courses.

Financial & Supply Assistance: Help covering the cost of textbooks and essential school supplies.

Basic Needs & Housing Support: Holistic support, including access to emergency housing resources, so you can focus on your education.
Who is Eligible?
You may qualify for NextUp if you meet the following requirements:
- Foster Care Experience: You spent at least one day in the foster care system (in any state) on or after your 13th birthday.
- Age: You are under 26 years old at the start of the academic year.
- Enrollment: You are currently enrolled in, or working toward, at least nine (9) academic units.
