Jennifer Baxton
About Jennifer
My name is Jenny Baxton, Associate Professor of the English Department, and SBCC has been my home for nearly 20 years. I am a native of Southern California, and I love being outdoors in the mountains, sea, and desert in equal but different ways. I like reading and thinking about people’s connection to place, about pop culture and old school roots, and about humor and art.
When I attended college at UCSB and graduate school at CalArts, I felt it was the most liberating time of self-discovery in my life. Now, in the middle of my life (I hope?!?), I am still in the process of self-discovery: trying to figure out how to sing, wishing I could play ukelele, hoping to get things in my garden to grow, and deciding what to cook next. Watching students in their own journey of self-discovery is why I teach.
